New film fest in Clarksdale begins in 2011

November 10, 2010

The Clarksdale Downtown Development Association announced the inaugural Clarksdale Film Festival from January 27-30, 2011.

“Much like our successful Juke Joint Festival, the new Clarksdale Film Festival will strive to put business into the businesses, drive tourism through our doors, and celebrate our area’s rich cultural heritage,” according to the press release.

Planned as a “long weekend of Mississippi, Southern and music-related films in the heart of the Delta,” the Clarksdale Film Festival will present new, indie and classic films with connections to the region’s music, culture and people.

With Delta Cinema (11 Third St.) as the central screening facility, our festival will also work with area businesses, museums and other venues to screen a wide-reaching collection of quality works all around town in an effort to appeal to both our own local audience and visiting tourists from around the globe.

The Clarksdale Film Festival will also include educational bus tours highlighting Clarksdale’s own movie-connections around town, and it will tie into the week’s live music offerings each and every night. All in all, we plan for our inaugural event to be the first noteworthy event of what stands to be a wonderful 2011 inClarksdale, Mississippi.
