Where I Begin – the Beginning

May 20, 2010

I have always been a fan of film and have passionately been involved for years with a film festival but as a writer, I have always wanted to get involved with the actual filmmaking process.

Luckily, Thomas L. Phillips, one of my favorite indie filmmakers and whose film Rattle Basket we showed at OFF 2009, presented an idea to me for a script and thankfully encouraged me to help him write. The process has been phenomenal and so far the support tremendous.

We plan to cast the film, Where I Begin,  in June and shoot on a Canon 5D and 7D (the awesome camera used in the season finale of HOUSE) in July-August in Columbia, KY.

Now to fulfill our dream of getting this film made, we are looking for some fundraising help to be able to pay our cast and for some production costs. In that vein, we have started a Kickstarter campaign in order to continue the collaborative process by bringing you in. Feel free to read on to learn more. Take just a moment and if it feels right, donate and help us with our dream! Every little bit helps and every dollar is appreciated more than you can know.

If you just can’t give, emotional support helps us as well. Follow along with our story and join our Facebook group, Twitter or just the occasional hug when you see us!

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE BELIEVE IN:

We are merely independent filmmakers with a strong personal story and an emotional drive to bring it to life. We believe that indie film is more than just an artistic medium. We believe that independent films can and do hold a significant place in the history of filmmaking. Where Hollywood has failed, independent cinema has picked up the ball, telling stories that mean something and that show us the real world, its good, bad and ugly.

THE MOVIE:

Where I Begin is a character study in a small, small southern town. The events, rumors, stares and gossip from one night long ago has shaped a group of friends into who they are as adults. When Jacob returns, the unease of that long ago event once again surfaces. For Haddy, Jacob’s return is a reminder of her own desire to escape and start a new life.

The movie is a gritty southern drama that pulls no punches and delves into the lives of the towns people and the inner workings of a small southern community, where rumors are the truth and the past is always right in front of you.

The movie is full of characters and places that everyone can and will identify with. It is a movie about real people in real situations.

FILMMAKERS:

This will be the third feature from filmmaker Thomas L. Phillips. The script was co-written by Phillips and me.
