December 4, 2009

Local filmmakers Nitin and Deepak Mantena are in the running for a national college comedy competition for young filmmakers. Two of the filmmaker brothers films were selected into the top 32 and now one of the films “Moustache” made it into the top 8. Now is the time to vote for the film to make it into the top 4. Voting began Wednesday and runs through the Dec. 9.

As part of the top 8, the Mantenas had to make a new short film about “What sucks about college” which can be seen and voted on the Web site. Their new film is titled “College Daze.”
“We are really excited to be from Mississippi and representing the University of Mississippi in the competition,” Nitin Mantena said.

He is currently a senior and his brother Deepak graduated from the university. The two make short films out of their production company Celery Studios.

If the Mantena’s make it into the top four then they will be flown to Aspen in June where their short film will show at the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival where the winner will be determined.
