Cake Eaters in Theaters and on DVD!

March 6, 2009

Before she was Bella, Kristen Stewart was Georgia in Mary Stuart Masterson’s directorial debut, The Cake Eaters.

Many in Oxford may have seen it at the Oxford Film Festival in 2008. When it screened at Tribeca, Erik Davis of Cinematical gave it a nice write up – read it here.

The movie struggled to find distribution until Twilight success but it is sad that it took the film so long. The stellar cast alone should have warranted it a theatrical release (Bruce Dern, Melissa Leo, Tom Cavanaugh, Jesse L. Martin and the list goes on). Not even including the stellar behind-the-scenes crew.

If you are lucky to live near enough any of these theaters, check Cake Eaters out beginning Mar. 11. For the rest of us, DVD release only.

If you are not into those slice-of-life movies that are just about the little moments, it may not be your thing. But if you want to see a much better performance from Kristen Stewart than Twilight, SEE this. She blew me away in this one.
