WIN $500, GET PUBLISHED IN THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL

On Location: MEMPHIS international film fest Young Film Critic Competition

If you love watching movies and can give your opinion about them, this competition is for you! We are seeking high school candidates for our first annual Young Film Critic Competition, in partnership with The Commercial Appeal. Our goal is to encourage the practice of essayistic, intellectual review-writing.

Grand Prize

  • The winning review will be published in The Commercial Appeal during the week of the 10th Annual On Location: MEMPHIS international film fest, April 23-26, 2009.
  • One winning student receives a $500 savings bond, 2 All-Festival Passes to the festival, and Malco movie passes.

Competition Rules

  • Any student who is currently in grade 9 through 12 in the Mid-South area are eligible
  • Students must be available to screen the film on Saturday , April 18 , from 9:30 am – 12 PM (in Memphis at a Malco Theatre – location TBD)
  • Essay portion of this application must be typed and submitted by April 3, 2009

Competition Timeline

  • April 3 by 5pm – Applications must be received (no exceptions!)
  • April 6 – Selected finalists will be notified
  • April 18 9:30am – 12 pm – Film review workshop and screening
  • April 20 by 5pm – Reviews submitted for judging
  • April 24 – Winner is notified with review published in THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL
  • April 25 –Prize presented to winner at film screening during On Location: MEMPHIS international film fest
