The sixth annual Oxford Film Festival ended after four days of non-stop movies, parties and panels. Last Saturday the awards ceremony, held at the Lyric, created a lot of laughs with fun diner scenes performed by locals. The series is available on YouTube but see below for my favorite.

A full house including local audience, volunteers, Mississippi filmmakers and celebrity guests Jason Ritter, Debra Winger and Craig Brewer enjoyed the festivities.

As for the winning films, if you didn’t catch them then follow along with my movie blog to get updates on when you might see them next. The best narrative feature, “Make Out With Violence,” will show next week at the Magnolia Film Festival in Starkville.

The winners of the 6th Annual Oxford Film Festival are:

Best Narrative Feature: Make-Out with Violence

Best Documentary Feature: Crude Independence

Best Narrative Short: The Wednesdays

Best Documentary Short: Mississippi Drug War Blues, the Cory Maye Story

Best Music Video: Crystal

Best Animated Short: Symphony

Best Experimental Film: Grand Wheel

Best Mississippi Film: Neshoba

Audience Award: Prom Night in Mississippi

As for the rest of the movie world around Oxford, this week catch Oscar nominated films “Milk” and “The Reader” over at The Amp. For showtimes go to And of course, tomorrow is Friday the 13th. You’ll find me at the Malco for that one. Go to for showtimes. On Tuesday catch “Land of the Pharoahs” as part of World Film Night at the public library at 6 p.m.
