Top Cameo Roles

In light of a conversation this morning with “PC guy” John Hodgman, who had a cameo role in Baby Mama, I began thinking of other fun cameos this year. The idea of a cameo used to be celebrities that just play themselves, but as they have evolved, they are now traditionally famous people taking on a small role, for example Sean Connery in Robin Hood as the King.

Many directors place themselves in the film with a short cameo, Alfred Hitchock and M. Night Shyamalan are famous for this.

Some of my favorites so far this year are:

1. Although I have yet to see this, I am looking forward to seeing Stephanie Meyer, the author of the famous series, will appear in Twilight, coming out this Friday.

2. Salman Rushdie as an ob/gyn in Then She Found Me

3. Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder

4. Samuel L. Jackson in Iron Man

5. Stan Lee in Incredible Hulk and Iron Man (although his best cameo was in Mallrats)

Oh yes, Campbell! Yah, I was thinking only in 2008. What would a list of all time top cameos even look like? Where could you begin?

    Maybe directors?
    Favorite Alfred Hitchcock cameo?

Ok, these aren’t recent, but they’re the first cameo’s that popped into my head.

Patrick Stewart as The King in Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men In Tights.

Bruce Campbell in all of the Spider-man movies. He’s a different person in each film.
