New Rentals Tomorrow

May 12, 2008

Frontier is a sadistic horrorfest by director/writer Xavier Gens (who also made Hitman). It’s a must see for horror buffs. It goes without saying that you must see the uncut version. Even the trailer just makes you cringe.

Mad Money is one Diane Keaton film that I am not dying to see. However, at some point I will watch it. Katie Holmes, Queen Latifah, Diane Keaton as a robber trio with Ted Danson should have been a hit. So, what went wrong?

The Great Debaters was named the 9th best film of 2007 by Roger Ebert. Directed by Denzel Washington and produced by Oprah Winfrey, the film is the true story of Wiley College’s debate team in the 1930’s that traveled to Harvard (in the film only, USC in reality) as the first African American team to debate a White team. Although the group won, the film is more about the historical black college in Marshall, TX and the racial tensions that the team must survive while bettering themselves. It really is an inspirational movie.

Untraceable has a good concept but the execution just isn’t that strong. Starring Diane Lane as FBI agent Jennifer Marsh, Untraceable is a cat-mouse chase that plays out over the internet. Eh. We shall see.
