New Theater Releases May 2nd!

May 2, 2008

While we are losing 21 and Nim’s Island (thank goodness), Iron Man is finally released on Friday as is the chick flick Made of Honor.

The highly anticipated Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau, who skillfully directed the fast paced action adventure movie, Zathura as well as the comedic Elf, releases today! I will be the first in line for a late evening viewing, with a review up this weekend. But for now, other reviews seem fairly positive. Most reviewers are not promising the best movie ever, but a solid comic book adaptation. Christy Lemire, AP Movie critic, had this to say about Robert Downey Jr.’s performance, “Downey may have seemed an unlikely casting choice at first, but it’s difficult to imagine any other actor in the role; he’s so quick-witted and he makes such inspired decisions with dialogue that, at times, might have seemed corny otherwise.” However, she warns that the ending is not nearly as good as the first half of the film.

For those who don’t want to see an awesome action flick (why not, I ask you?), then Made of Honor, the new romantic comedy starring Patrick Dempsey also releases today. Dempsey has always been perfect in romantic comedies (Can’t Buy Me Love, Sweet Home Alabama, etc), and will do well in the role, I am sure. However, the story revolves around his best friend having to choose between him and an equally great guy. Wasn’t that basically the gist of Sweet Home Alabama? Other than not already being married to one of them, the story smacks very similar to other storylines. But, I am a softie, I will definitely rent this one.

Oxford will not see Morgan Spurlock’s Where in The World is Osama Bin Laden. Look for it on DVD in a few months.
